Map Design Studio

Jason Clark MA MSIAD FRGS

Introduction

Established in 2000, Yellowfields is the trading name of cartographer, graphic designer—and occasional illustrator—Jason Clark. From his studio in South West Scotland, he crafts bespoke maps and graphics that help people discover and explore places. Jason works both independently and as a sub-consultant to organisations wishing to expand or diversify their offer on ad-hoc projects.

Clarifying Complexity

Jason specialises in creating maps and wayfinding graphics for destinations, heritage sites, parks and urban spaces. His bespoke mapping solutions combine accurate and feature-rich cartography, intuitive design, and a user-centered approach that enhances the visitor experience and supports destination management. From detailed estate maps to public transport networks, Jason brings clarity to complex environments. His maps are used by award-winning destinations, such as the Sandringham Estate and Glen Tanar Estate.

Jason is recognised for an overall design approach that transforms spatial complexity into [carto]graphic solutions of engaging simplicity and clarity, yet rich in functionality. Whilst maps for visitors and wayfinding dominate, Jason is experienced in all forms of mapping, whether topographic, topological, thematic, abstract or artistic.

“In a world where more maps are being made than ever before, cartography doesn’t need reinvention; it needs understanding!”

– DR KENNETH FIELD
